I like to put off the Christmas tree and decorating my home until as late as possible, then the wait until Christmas Morning doesn't seem so long, it works for me. This theory also applies to gift buying.
But, with the Church Christmas Party on Friday Night it seemed a good like a good weekend to dedicate to Christmas Preparation. So that is where we started. Kezia and Tirzah both had(have) colds, and I was trying to talk myself into staying at home with them, but Dale was in a skit so I wanted to go see that. Also, Aphra was serving Dinner with the Young Women, so I wanted to offer her some support. if nothing else a little cheer here & there!! I should have listened to the inner voice, STAY HOME!!!!
We had a nice Ham dinner and then a program, which included Dales Skit, and the Primary Children Sang, where Kezia somehow magically appeared with Mahlon (she is still in Nursery). But it was after that, That it all went CRAZY. I like being the freak show of our ward with my 5 kids.
As we tried to watch the program, my friend Robin held Screamin' Tirzah(abnormally sick/grumpy), as Dale was preparing for his skit, And I tried to Keep Kezia from taking off All her clothes. guess who won that battle. not me. of course, everyone found this mildly amusing but me. So I ended up with Kezia in the foyer, stripped down to her diaper. Dale eventually came and rescued me, and said, let's go. So we took Kezia home in her Diaper. The kids were a little ripped off, as they were waiting for dessert. So I let them grab some goodies, and off we went. And Aphie is like, "this is the first time we weren't the last to leave". I'm pretty sure it won't be the last.
Saturday we went with Tradition and hunted and cut down our Christmas Tree. This is my kids favorite part. We started this when we lived in Manitoba. We went with the Courts and the Orrs, and it was always an adventure, and ended with a warm meal! So I was pretty excited, about the prospect of not running around, up to my Knees in snow, freezing, minus 40 degrees, looking for the "perfect" tree. I happen to maybe, even put it even to a tune. But then everyone rallied against me and was all"that was fun!! We loved the bonfire and the Hot Chocolate After... blah, blah blah!!!" bunch of optimists. So off we went , Mahlon tried Shorts & a T shirt, but I made him change. It was too chilly for that.
We eventually found a tree after we looked through the tree Farm, The kids played Tag, and they called out the price on EVERY tree. Which I looked and acted embarrassed about, but really I was glad for. We found a tall tree, that wasn't too wide. There were 5 different kinds of trees to choose from. and none of them were prickly. We chose a Noble. whatever that is. So After everyone had a chance to saw the tree, we brought it home, drank egg nog, ate goodies and decorated.
And then Sunday Night we watched the Movie THE TESTAMENTS, which if you haven't seen or if you don't own it... you should.
So that was our Crazy weekend. And I suppose over the next few weeks it will get even crazier as the kids get more excited about Christmas! We even woke up to some snow on Sunday Morning, which is a very big concern to Mahlon why there is no snow here. So he was able to get and shovel a bit.

I'm sorry, but really, how does your Christmas tree adventure compare to the Courts? I don't see any of you looking like you are freezing your buns off. I would hope you would at least make your kids stick their heads & hands in your freezer so that they can have a "faux experience." On the other hand - love the tree! Miss you all.....sigh.....
I love Christmas, but I have to say that I am all about the fake tree for our house. I don't have to water it or... well I guess that'a about it. I'm very low maintenance.
I am amazed we were finally abel tog et our tree up too. We bought a real tree this year too, and I am loving it!
