The Gift of Life, and our New Addition

Last night I gave the gift of life at our Ward Blood Donation Night. It's every 8 weeks, and it starts off with meeting for dinner, and then we head over to give our donation!! As Tirzah is now 6 months old I can now participate! I think this is a great Idea for the ward to do this, and I am planning on continuing with this.

I was treated like a first timer last night, although I am not really. but it has been a long time. I remember when I was a little girl, my auntie Joan used to give blood regularly, so I couldn't wait until I was able to do the same, and when I was younger like 16- 19 I did. Then in my giving excitement, I lured two of my friends with me. With promises of how easy it was, and how good they would feel about themselves after. they reluctantly agreed. It worked out well for one of them, not so good for the other. After 2 of us had donated and while were enjoying our juice & cookie, word came that our other friend, during his donation, passed out!!! So, with my ever so compassionate ways I headed over there, barely able to hide my amusement and as I leaned over him barely able to catch my breath as I was laughing so hard tears streaming down my face. Next thing I knew I was on the floor, passed out. must have been true love hey, Dale???

So needless to say I (or we) didn't rush back. And that wouldn't be Dales last run in with a needle that ended up with him passing out! So last night he came for moral support! Thanks Honey! It brought back some great memories, and a good chuckle. Dale has passed this on to Aphra, she doesn't so so well with Needles. When she went with her Grandma Taylor to get her ears Pierced, she passed out. I am sure her Grandma is still scared for life! And then when she gets needles at school, same thing. when she received her grade 4 booster at school, which I forgot about, so she was on her own. She told the nurse that she was a little nervous, and the nurse told her "don't be a silly girl" next thing Aphra remembers is throwing up, and everything going black. I don't think she got an apology. I've since been more diligent with the needles at school.

And for our New Addition...

We bought, for my nephew Matthew, this really cute Pirate Puppet, but while we were waiting to ship it, Barnacle Bart became apart of our Family. He had dinner with us, put us to bed at night, and some mornings he even woke us up. Even the harder to crack nuts in our family gave in to Barnacle to Bart's wacky ways and wise cracking attitude, and now we are one big Family. Not to worry I was able to track down his twin and he now lives with Matthew, no word yet if Barnacle Bart has made his presence Known at his new house, but he is still going strong here!!!

I took your Uncle Bill with me 3 times. The first time went fine. The second time Jen and I sat donating across from him and watched him pass out. The third time I watched them throw back the chair, cover him with ice and try to find his pulse. Before we left they made him sign a paper saying he would not return. People thought I was terrible laughing at him. Aunt Joan

Uncle Bill, I would sleep with one eye open if I were you.

I don't think I have ever donated blood before. Everytime they had a drive, I was inelligible for some reason or other. Pregnant or nursing or something, I can't remember. I guess now that isn't going to be much of a problem now!
