I Remember When...

So I am happy to update on Mahlon. He is doing really good, and really it's been good since he left through the front doors of the Hospital. He hasn't had any pain, or so he says, and Believe me I have asked! I was able to keep him inside for maybe 1/2 of a day. We taped it up, and off he went! There is just no stopping him! One day he came in, looking for his helmet. When I asked him what he was doing he was"We made a jump!" We got the stitches out this morning, and everything looks good. In a year we can see a plastic surgeon if we need some work on the scar, but i doubt we'll go that route, unless it's really bad.

We also were able to celebrate Aphra's Birthday Early! She turns 12 on Thursday, I still can't believe it, but apparently it's going to happen. And Yes, I AM too young to have a 12 yrs old. We had cake, had a dinner of her choice: Dry Ribs, Asparagus, garlic bread, mashed potatoes & Gravy. We celebrated early because we are heading on holidays, and we got Aphie an Ipod for her Birthday, and we wanted some time to Load it up. And ever since I have been thinking about when I was 12. And no we are not going to post any "Anne" stories. But I will take this opportunity to apologize for anything I did to anyone in my 12th year. Now that ought to keep you quiet for a moment.

So Aphie let Mahlon take her Ipod to the doctor this morning, so he could watch the movie Cars while he waited. Yes, I said Watch Cars. When I was 12, I had a walkman. It played music off a ribbon, and if i was lucky my little stinky brothers didn't unwind my tapes. And when they did, and they Did, You had to find the right type of pencil so you could try to wind the ribbon back. If I wanted to listen to something other than one tape I had to lug around extra tapes. And if I wanted to listen to a particular song I had to spend 5 minutes Fast Forwarding and hopefully didn't go past it, to listen to a 2 1/2 min song. And an album was split in to two sides, good luck finding it! And I am not even going to talk about the fuzzy headphones. And if I wanted to call home from the mall, I had to find a quarter, find a payphone, and then touch the icky germy receiver. That was the way life was back then! And at home the phone was attached to the Wall by a **GASP** cord. And we were the last family on the planet to switch from a rotary dial(ahhh, what??) where you stuck your finger in a hole and turned the dial, and did each number separately, and no telling if you got the number right, until the other guy answered. And if the other guy was on the phone, it rang busy! Now, everyone has their own personal phone with them wherever they go. And My firends & i used to write notes on paper in proper English, now they IM or Text in this weird language. I guess her "syncing her Ipod" is equivalent to my "high Speed dubbing on my Getto Blaster". I wonder what changes these kids will see? I can't even imagine the changes my Grandmother has seen , and even the past 20 years things have changed so much. I also remember when Camera's required film. And I bought things with Cash. Movies were generally played on a VCR, and they were reserved for the living room, not in the van, and most certainly not my walkman. Anyhow as I watched Mahlon waiting, watching his movie, I thought what an interesting place to start.

**PS...I would have posted a picture but our camera is broken, it may have something to do with the 4500 pictures I've taken in the past 6 months!!

I am so glad that he is doing better. That picture of his stitches makes me so sad. Good thing he is such a tough guy.

Kids heal fast, don't they! Sonetimes faster than OUR emotions do, we're not quite ready to send them back out into the fray!
And I want an ipod more than I can tell you. I loved your little time machine about what it was like fir us growing up compared to our kids. I swear, we were the absolute last family around to get a cordless phone, we always had the huge sqare phone on the wall with the 50 ft. cord, tangled beyond any help, with a lits on the phone itself of all of the numbers on speed dial. And I love the power to skip to a song, and also to go back to a song anytime, instantly, on cd's. Anne, we do live in a great age. Does that make me lazy or impatient?

WE ARE GETTING OLD.

Scott and I FINALLY gave in and got cordless after ripping countless cords out of the wall with our 25ft cord that we managed to stretch all over the house.

My favorite thing is my cell phone. where would I be without it?

I am glad that he is doing well. Did the doctors tell you to keep his scar out of the sun for at least a year to help with scaring. I assume they did but just in case. I think it helped Adler's. We smother him in sunscreen and his scar is barely visible.

Walkman-Schmalkman. Give me an eight-track player anyday. Now THAT was a technology ahead of its time. A little Deep Purple, Allman brothers, and BTO in the truck out on the open road.

Of course, I had a hard time getting Depeche Mode on Eight-track.
