Yesterday was my first trip to the ER for stitches for one of the kids. Thank you Mahlon! He was outside riding his scooter with his friends and their babysitter, and somehow they got all jumbled up, and Mahlon got the worst of it-A huge gash in his cheek. Thank goodness Aphra is babysitting age, I left Kezia with her and off Tirzah, Mahlon & I went to the hospital. And our usually chatty Mahlon was sooooo quiet, it was eerie. In an attempt to cheer him up while we waited I told him that today he could probibly get anything he wanted!!! He didn't respond much to that but don't worry he catalogued that and every other bit of information that he heard. After waiting what seemed like forever Mahlon was stitched up and off we went home. Dale met us at the hospital, which I was glad for I'm not sure if I could have watched them stitch him up. But Dale held his hand and all the nurses and doctor commented on how brave he was! And he was! Add to that how quiet he was we were all feeling very sorry for him.
Exit the hospital- Chatty kathy is back. with Avengance, after all he was quiet for the past few hours, he had some serious making up to do. He had his Dad stop for Slurpee's and Candy. And kept asking when they were going to get his "BIG TOY". Dale took him to pick out a toy. What did he get? A Skateboard. Nice.
Mahlon is recovering nicely. He slept on our floor, and he is pumped full of tylenol. The swelling has gone down, and his nose has stopped bleeding. And he has everyone at his beck and call.
But it's pretty funny, thier perspective. After we were at home he said to me "mom, I tried to keep the blood in" He was very concerned about all the blood he lost, and we talked about his body making more. He was okay after that. And Aphra was talking about if that happened to her she wouldn't do well. and she wouldn't, just looking at Mahlon made her pale, and sick to her stomach, and we are lucky she didn't pass out. But mahlon says to her "all you have to do is hold Dad's hand, close your eyes, and relax." Even when he is not feeling well he is still helping others. Today we are especially thankful to have Mahlon in our Family.

Poor little dude. But, honestly, I am amazed that he has made it this long with-out getting any:)
What a tough guy. You look so tough.
I am sorry you ALL had to go through stitches. Estee has had stitches 2x chin and hand and Adler had stitches in his forehead. I didn't think I would make it through Adler's ordeal it was so traumatic. I have a scar on my right eyebrow I am surprised at how few people notice it.
I think it is funny that he got a toy after stitches. I went straight to the store and got Estee a new princess Barbie after she got her 2nd set. I think I needed the treat more than her. adler missed out on a toy but at 15mths he was too young to know that he could have taken his owie a lot farther.
It is hard to see kids suffering.
A note to prevent another disaster. Get wrist guards. Scott broke his wrist and was SO LUCKY that he didn't need surgery and screws put in his hand. It was weeks and weeks of casts.
not to scare you.
we have the wrist guards, i think i will have him wear them. I am surprised that this hasn't happened before, especially with Corbin our wild man. He has tons of freaky close calls, but nothing yet(knock on wood). It will be Kezia who has the standing Reservation at the ER
What a brave girl you were Anne....kids take their cues from their parents, so you must have held it together fairly well! You need chocolate & cheesecake...better yet....chocolate cheesecake...mmmm.... Hugs & gentle kisses to Mahlon from me. And I suggest you wrap his entire body in bubble-wrap.
So far the only one to take a bad fall has been Dylan. We have so far, not had any ER visits for stitches....but with Mathes, I am not holding my breath. He's kind of an animal. A very sweet animal that will give you endless hugs and kisses, right before he launches himself off the roof, aimimg for the trampoline. I am so glad Mahlon is OK, and what a brave, strong boy! Stitches are not fun, and not easy, Mahlon you earned that skateboard the hard way!
Yeah, I was there when Scott broke his wrist, Korb and I were watching him skate a half pipe, and it didn't seem that bad at the very first, but within an hour it was killing him, and badly swollen. Yeah, Korby wins around here for the most ER/Hospital visits with her kids & husband. Not a prize she ever sought to earn, I know.
He picked out the skateboard so that he could work on matching stitches on the other cheek.
What a brave guy.
The weirdest thing is that the mellow ones that will get you, maybe because the guardian angels are focusing on the wilder children. Estee is my mellowest and has had 2 sets. Taft is our monkey boy climbing EVERYTHING and has had NONE. Just a thought.
Brandee V: What a tuff little guy. I got tears reading this. Hope he is feeling better.
That is unreal, I can't believe how sore his little face looks. kids are so tuff, I would suck it up for as long as my face looked like that. I just couldn't stop looking at his poor cheek and how hugh it is, my heart goes out to him. Your super mom for holding it together. Brownie points in my book.
I'm not looking forward to all the boy bumps and bruises Wellsy will get.
