Corbin: Chess Grand Master

Corbin Enjoying his Tart,
I would have snapped a pic of him at Chess Club...
but I think he might have Freaked...

well not yet, but lets give it a few years.

Corbin has a funny mix of interests. And since homework isn't one of them I have to initiate some sort of regimen to get it done. So we are often at the Library, choosing different readers for the kids to read from nightly. When we were there on Friday, Corbin saw a sign for Chess Club, and asked if he could join.

A few years ago, he and Dale started playing, and this has turned into their 'thing'.

So we signed him up for chess club. Like every good mother, I thought he was going to get his butt kicked, but he won 3 out of 4 games. So now every Monday afternoon, you will find Corbin at Chess Club. but only after he changes into his 'nerd' clothes.

Corbin's other Interest:cooking.

He has just completed a course through the leisure guide. He was not impressed to find out that the class was all girls. but eventually an other boy showed up, and Corbin was thrilled "That I wasn't the only man".
He learned how to make Chocolate Chip Cookies, english muffin pizza's, worms in dirt, and Pumpkin Pie Tarts. When his friends were bugging him about his cooking class he said "can't you just accept that I want to be a chef??" And even though he wouldn't color his recipe book, he liked the class very much. I think I will put him the next level up 'Culinary Arts', hopefully less coloring, and one day he will appreciate being the only boy in a class full of girls, but gladly not yet!

I've never played chess either. But I do cook. I think it's so cool he's so into chess and so interested in cooking, he will definitely be using that skill the rest of his life! Way to go Corbin! Does this mean you'll be posting some of his recipes?

Good news! You may not have to cook anymore! Just sit back and let him put his talents to work.
