The Greatest Thing We Have EVER Done!!!

In our old house we didn't have a TV in our common living area. We had a Stereo for entertainment, and that was great!! THE Kids loved playing Dj with all of our old CD's. We had 2 TV's one in our bedroom, and a larger one downstairs. We didn't have Cable, but 5 peasant view channels. life was good.

When we moved into out new house there just happen to be a built in Entertainment Centre inviting us to place our TV there... Well once that happened we knew that we needed cable. And since we had to have cable, we needed FULL cable. which I thought was a compromise on the whole Digital TV. Anyhow.

We were at Parent Teacher Conference. And it dawned on me that the kids aren't doing so well. And I knew it was time for the TV to go. Now I have grown to love sharing my afternoon with Wolf Blitzer, and Lou Dobbs.

So Dale ripped out my heart, and collapsed my lungs last Saturday night, even though I knew it was for the greater good for all mankind, or at least Taylorkind. And moved the TV into the Basement. Which is actually like putting it in no mans land, as they are afraid to be in the basement by themselves, and since I am not going to watch 'Suite Life with Zach & Coty', I might as well have dumped it off the side of the earth. Corbin will come down when he thinks of it, or if he has a bit of free time, but otherwise...

Don't worry about me. I still have a TV in my room, and I can hide a way for a few moments to catch up on all the day's news, but unless I want my room to look like a Bomb went off, as they all like to follow me, I avoid it until bedtime.

But what a difference this has made around the house. It's like we kicked out the gloomy monster. The kids get along way better. Gone is the constant Blaring of the TV, even when it is something that I want to watch. We just kind of hang around and chit chat. Dale even bought me an Ipod and a stereo to play it on. I prefer a more calming music around the house, and when we want to rock out we can, but mostly I play nice quiet music. Okay fine mostly Church music, but it's the best to listen to the kids as they are singing along with it, and they don't even know it!!! Maybe we could put multiplication tables on CD??!! I forgot what it was like, and I forgot how much i hated the TV. A miracle has occurred. The kids are back to doing their Homework, and when they are done they can if they want go watch tv. but they mostly go outside to play with their friends, or hang out upstairs and play DJ. Gone are the hazy TV days!!!

Also I to mention how much I hate CD's I was forced to use a cd player (yes I know i sound ridiculous) and I was so sick of changing the cd ALL the time, or listening to the same CD over 10 times because it was on repeat. Ipod has changed my life!!

sometimes I am such a freak.

Anne, we just moved the tv into the basement when we listed out house for sale, and we are now smacking our foreheads wondering why we didn;t do it before. My home is so much more peaceful, the kids play outside more, toys and books are picked up and used more regularly, and my house has a certain peace that has settled over it, even during this stressful time of trying to sell, that I never expected. Wish I had done it sooner! And I want an Ipod so badly, for the very same reasons you've cited too! Oh, the little piece of heaven it would be...

Shortly after I had Olivia, Gary signed us up for Sattelite. Shortly after I had Holden we got rid of sattelite. Earlier this year Gary signed us up for cable and a few months later he switched to just the basic channels. I like getting local news and a few shows, but I also like interacting with my family. I'm with you on shutting off the TV. It is a wonderful thing.

Your poor kids! You are the worst mom ever. Bring their TV back. Who cares about grade, they don't need to learn to read.

Hey want to meet me at the McDonalds play place?

We moved our tv downstairs because we wanted a quieter space for sitting and talking and so our "good furniture" wouldn't get trashed, but instead the kids still stay upstairs because apparently they think I shouldn't be left alone or have any peace...I guess I should be glad they still like to be around their mom. At least that's what I keep telling myself.
